Stopped by the Golden Dragon on...

Stopped by the Golden Dragon on a Saturday night. Despite the fact that I live right door in Washington, this was my first visit to a Portland club. My hotel was downtown and I noticed that downtown Portland is quite a mixture of artsy types, and poor people living outdoors. There were lots of people out on the street that night as I approached the club and went up the long flight of stairs to the club.

The club’s theme, as you might guess from the name, is a somewhat seedy Asian club, which should be cool. Except that it was all white girls. The crowd was mostly young guys in their early to mid 20s. There is a big stage area in the middle, a bar to the side, chairs surrounding the stage, some LD chair and booths at the back with thin curtains, and some very private VIP rooms.

Dancers danced on stage for many songs. There were often multiple girls on stage. The rule was that if you want to sit next to the stage, you need to tip at least $1 per song. Girls will come over and maybe make some minor contact with you if you do.
