I had a great time here...
I had a great time here this past Saturday. It was the holiday weekend, so things were a little slower than on my last visit, but for this place, a slow night is like a busy night at most ordinary clubs.
This time I also scoped out the surrounding area a bit better. The Crazy Russian is about 2 miles up Pulaski Hwy., close to 695, and Gentlemen's Gold Club is about a quarter mile in the other direction on Pulaski, right at the 895 interchange. There are a number of liquor stores up and down Pulaski, some sketchier-looking than others. The one right near the corner of Pulaski and North Pt. is clean and well-lit, and there is a gas station right next door that sells beer also. I picked up some J.D. at the liquor store and a couple of cokes at the gas station, and headed into MPC. The club seems to have an identity crisis. The biggest sign on the outside just says "Players Club", but a smaller sign says "The Wagon Wheel presents Manhattan Players Club." One club, three names.
I arrived around 8:30, right at the same time as a large bachelor party that came in on a bus. These guys were cool, having a good time and not being too rowdy. They had brought in a jar of grapes soaked in moonshine, and were sharing these morsels with the dancers. The girls were making hilarious faces of disgust as they choked these things down. Several of the dancers I spoke with complained about the place being slow, but by midnight it was rocking, not SRO, but not a lot of empty seats.
