Anthony’s remains a puzzle. A visit Friday night found the club reasonably full – perhaps 35 customers; 15 or 16 dancers in the building. 3 or 4 dancers on stage at a time; 15 minute sets. Dollar dances tended to be generous with time, but the ridiculous height of the stage made it difficult to see comfortably. For some reason Anthony’s had the stage lights turned down so low that it was difficult to see anything at all. The brightest light illuminating the dancers came from the ATM machine against the back wall. The problem was corrected later in the evening, but in the interim, one couldn’t help wondering if they were trying to hide something. It can’t have been the girls, most of whom were attractive.
I had a good Massachusetts private dance from a tallish blonde named Brooke who approached me. She was the only one, and there lies the ongoing weirdness with Anthony’s. While I and others were there prepared to part with our money, and the ratio of customers to girls was far from overwhelming, it was difficult to impossible to get the attention of dancers when they were off stage. The stage arrangement can make it difficult for guys at the rail to make eye contact with people off stage, and the height of the stage makes it hard to arrange a p.d. with a dancer when one can only converse with her ankles. But the real problem is that most of the girls tend to disappear immediately after leaving the stage, or go off to one side and chat with one another, the bouncers, or their boyfriends. The message seems to be that they’re not interested. OK, I know they’re not interested in us, but our wallets? I should come to this club more often; I might save some money.
