I stopped into Deja Vu North...
I stopped into Deja Vu North Hollywood on Thursday in the midst of a road trip, mostly to check out the scene during their $100 VIP deal that goes on every Thursday. Generally I had a pretty good experience.
The Club: I guess the club is a standard Deja Vu, fairly nice on the inside, decent furniture, nothing ratty looking, fairly well lit, with a smoking patio. The club is located in an old warehouse (it's right next to a rail line in an industrial area, so it's probably occuping some former industrial use). There's a complimentary valet service in their mostly indoor garage that takes up a fair portion of the warehouse building, and the smoking patio is basically a fenced off area within that parking garage. Compared to the one other DV club I've been to, this one is huge, so they left plenty of room inside the building for the actual club. There's one main stage, but once it gets busy, it seems like they start up additional stages which are basically just small areas with poles on them scattered around the club. There's a similar stage out in the smoking patio, but no one was using it. I only did the half hour VIP, so I didn't check out the regular LD area, but the VIP booths are pretty nice - there's a place for you to put your stuff, and the booths are fairly spacious. Some have a screen that the dancer can use to close off the entryway from prying eyes, but there are cameras mounted all around the ceiling, so don't go in believing things will get too crazy. Admission is standard DV - $10 entry fee, $10 bottomless soda fountain. Regular LDs are $20, VIPs are normally $150 for a half hour but $100 on Thursdays. Like many DV clubs, this one has the automated bill accepters, so there's no need to worry about how many songs your dance lasts or whether the dancer is trying to cheat you on length or anything. The bathrooms seemed pretty nice and large, with screens dividing the urinals, which is always nice. There was a bathroom troll, an elderly African American gentleman who likes to talk about basketball and uses a cane, but he was far less annoying than at many other places.
The dancers: I only saw one girl I'd put at anwhere close to a 9, and she was outside eating or playing with her phone most of the time. Most of the girls are in the 6-7 range - fairly middle of the road, but generally fit and no real ugly girls or overweight ones. With exceptions, the dancers all seemed pretty young, mostly probably not of drinking age yet. I was asked for dances by 4 girls, and only felt the need to turn one down, but other than the one 9, I didn't see anyone that I wanted to wait around for specifically. Most of girls that approached me didn't converse much more than exchanging names and asking if I wanted a dance, and they were all pretty silent once we went back for dances.
