I don’t usually go looking for...

I don’t usually go looking for entertainment in Waterbury – come to think of it, I rarely look for Waterbury – but having a couple of hours to kill between an appointment and dinner, I checked out Mr. Happy’s. It’s a small club with a central stage and a few tables. You can see the stage from pretty much anywhere in the room. Lappers are on a slightly elevated area in a corner. There is nothing resembling privacy. But based on the body language of the very attentive bouncers, I don’t think there’d be much need for privacy, if you get my drift. I got a good grind a couple of times. Nothing more appears to be available.

Late on a weekday afternoon there were perhaps 9-10 dancers working, most white or Hispanic, many on the north side of 30. Unlike in many clubs, the talent here appears to take pride in stage and pole work – there were moments of considerable energy and acrobatic creativity – for what it’s worth, which is really not much more than a buck or two on the edge of the stage.

At this time of day, the atmosphere appears to be that of a local after-work bar with naked women. The girls tend to gravitate toward the regulars. It’s not unfriendly, but it’s a challenge to get attention. It wasn’t a bad experience. Actually, it was barely an experience. No harm, no foul!
