I got into Center City Philadelphia one Tuesday afternoon and had time to hit a club. On the advice of my ATF dancer whom I was picking up later for dinner, I went to Club Risque on the Delaware. This was a club she had danced at awhile ago and she highly recommended it. Although not a big fan of these fancier large urban, low mileage clubs, I went anyway in an attempt to show her that I am capable of having class, if only for a short time period.

I enter at about 3:30pm and am struck by the enormity of it all. A huge bar with multiple poles, preferred raised seating with tables in the back and two buffet tables. Only one problem though. I was the 3rd customer in the place – the place was totally dead. The 3 dancers on shift were bored out of their minds and playing with their phones (1 was dancing). Bartender disappeared for some reason but the guy stocking the bar with bottles got me a beer. Nobody was touching the food so they were closing down one of the buffet tables.

I know it’s Tuesday afternoon but c’mon. Had heard that the new Xfinity Live! district by the sports complex was drawing people at the expense of some of the clubs, but this was ridiculous. The contrast is especially stark for a super-sized club because it just looks downright bleak and depressing.
