Taps are in order. The sometimes brilliant, often maligned Flamingo is no more. As of today, the basement club that was once the men's room of the Gaiety Theatre - purchased a while back by the owners of the club upstairs (Larry Flint's Hustler Club) - closed its doors for the last time. The new owners are rumored to have plans to reopen at a future date with a new name - word on the street is that it will be Little Darlings (Darlin's?).
I chatted briefly with Macy, one of the Flamingo's most enterprising dancers in recent years, as she sat disappointed and forlorn on the front steps. She typically comes to work around 5:00 - later than most of the other the 12-7 shift workers - and found the door locked with no notice and no further information available. She's now looking for a new venue. Now the Blockist will have to find a new favorite venue.
