With the ban on nude dancing...

With the ban on nude dancing in Memphis it’s hard to see how any clubs will survive for long, but I stopped by on a recent Sunday evening to see if a good time might still be had.

The club is a large and well-maintained facility, with one long rectangular main hall dominated by a central stage. Comfortable table seating surrounds the stage on all sides, with additional semi-private booths on the right as you enter. The main bar is at the far end from the entrance, and there’s also a secondary bar in a raised area at the front left corner.

I arrived around 6:30 and there were only 3-4 customers in the place, half sitting at the bar talking with the (very cute) bartender and eating sandwiches from an outside restaurant. Over the next half hour or so I watched about six girls make their rotations on stage, wearing various types of tank tops, booty shorts, and bikinis – absolutely no nudity was displayed. While some of the girls put in energetic stage performances, it was clear the lack of skin – and corresponding shortage of customers, and resulting tips – put a major damper on the festivities. To the club’s credit, the dancer quality was still quite high (6-8 range, IMHO), but it’s hard to see how they’ll be able to maintain this for long.
