Rock Springs is not high on...
Rock Springs is not high on anyone's list of favorite places to visit. But when traveling I-80 across the country, this town is worth a look. Ever since Diamond Lil's closed in the mid-90's, the Astro has had a monopoly on the market. It won't, for long. The Astro hasn't changed in 20 years. Now that it has competition from Club Millennium (under separate review), the Astro better clean up its act or suffer the consquences.
It is small, dingy, and dirty, but then, this is the wild west. With that being said, it is amazing the quality of entertainers it attracts. The Astro pulls in girls from cities hundreds of miles away. The city has a huge and growing economy centered around natural resource recovery, and sometimes you'd be thrilled whom you might run in to here. It's a rough place, so come prepared. In a dozen visits, there's never been a cover, even on weekends.
The Astro has room for only a single stage, and often it is packed. A local peculiarity is that often the local girls -- who have no business being on stage -- are invited onto it and they do show their stuff. You have to wonder why. Most often the dancers themselves are top-quality. Drinks are cheap, compared to the rest of the nation. Topless personal dances are $20.
