My first visit since Velvet became Rouge. It was slow, even for a Monday night -- probable due to the NCAA Championship game. I arrived about 11 PM. There was only one other customer in the stage room (technically non-smoking because of Virginia's no smoking laws, but at least one dancer was smoking) You enter through the bar next door and pay a ten dollar cover. From what I remember about Velvet, they've made some upgrades (or perhaps these were done before the change of ownership -- I've not been in a while since Velvet was a pit). No waitresses, but the dancer who sat with me to get me another beer when I'd finished my first. She also declined my offer to buy her a drink (points in her favor).
Let me run down the dancers that I saw while sitting at the rail as a group-- they were white, ranging from too skinny (seriously, I wanted to but this girl a meal just so i was sure she wasn't starving) to nicely curved -- none were unattractive. No 10s, but no one below a 6.5. A few tattoos and piercings, but not particularly excessive. Mostly blonde and relatively young.
One objection I had was that few of the dancers seemed to acknowledge the tips -- and at times I was the only one tipping. I am not saying that I want a lap dance at the rail for a dollar, but at least give me some indication that you see the tip. After a set was done, half the dancer did not even says thanks as they scooped up the bills. Maybe they were bummed because it was a slow night.
