My friends and I visit Jumbo's...
My friends and I visit Jumbo's on a fairly regular basis. The drinks are relatively cheap ($5-$7 for most items), compared to many of the other bars close by. The place is very small, so if you are looking for a seat at the bar, the tip rail, or the tables in the back, you better get there early and claim your spot. Sometimes if you get there too late there will be a line of people waiting to come in. There are fire codes that keep the occupancy at an appropriate level. I know bouncers always talk about the Fire Marshall coming, and I actually saw him one night stop in to ensure the bar was in check with the codes.
Even if there is a line, I recommend tipping the door guys. They are very cool, and it leaves a good impression should you need anything later. I tip maybe $30 to get six people in one night, and well worth considering I have tipped a door man more for myself at clubs before.
The ladies...almost an afterthought, as the place is great as a dive bar. These girls are entertainers! Some of them are beautiful, others are okay. They really get into the dances, and choose songs with a little more pizaz! I have seen a girl dance to Billy Idol's "White Wedding" in an actual wedding dress, as well as a 20's style flapper girl. The dancers are generally nice, and are focused on the dancing on stage. I am sure they are partying too, but the vibe is generally fun. I wouldn't recommend lap dances as it is right next to the bathroom in front of everyone. The bartenders are a little tough, but get the job done.
