UJ’s is in a decent area of east Portland – not what I’d call sketchy. Club itself is basically 90’s décor – neon, dark fabrics, moderate lighting. There was no cover when I and a friend went in on a Monday evening. Bar staff (female) was good & helpful. I had microbrews and I believe they were $4/pint (all change is in singles if you pay cash). The music was a bit loud, but not overwhelming – certainly possible to talk without shouting. Bathroom was clean. It is also worth noting that the clientele here has a definite local vibe – not thug/gangsta/biker – and there were a few couples there during my visit.

On to the dancers! I was a bit surprised to find 7-8 dancers working on a Monday evening. Most of them were Portland girls (moderate-to-heavy ink & piercings), whom I’d all call spinners with appearances ranging from 6 to 8.5. Their talent on the pole was modest at best, however they all had great attitudes, nice smiles, and were touchy with you at the rail. I will say that one had some formal gymnastics training, and her strength & flexibility moves on the stage were something to see! They definitely sold the private dances, but they are charming about it and the dances are in curtained booths. In my case, touching the dancers WAS permitted – I think you basically just need to ask the dancer if she’s OK with it, then respect her boundaries. Not being a total douche here goes a long way!

Overall, I was very happy with my first visit to Union Jack’s and will absolutely be back!
