Had to see the hype and...
Had to see the hype and this clubs a bit outta the way, but I had to swing through Detroit on my way to another event in the area so I thought I'd jump on 75 South and cruise down river. Got to the club on a Friday night around 8pm and stayed until about 9:15. Club was easy enough to find after cutting through a cookie cutter blue collar neighborhood that could've been anywhere else in the Detroit metro area. What caught my eye was the large, relic of the past sign in the parking lot advertising Henry VIII's. The building itself is on par with any other of the Hamilton clubs in the area--my only reference being Bogarts. Anyways, nice cinder block shack on a main drag. And just like those other clubs, the operation is pretty much the same. $5 cover, $10 VIP wrist band, 6.75 beers, although one sip through my first beer, the DJ announced a 2 for $10 special that I took advantage of. The crowd was pretty sparse. Mostly what I assumed were regulars. It only looked like they had one stage, but I could have been wrong. The talent itself was okay. I wasn't blown away, but at the same time, I wasn't upset at the offering. Like flies to shit, as soon as I sat down I was approached by a tall, busty, older looking brunette with long, curly hair named A---. Made some small talk and she seemed pretty cool with a good sense of humor. The talk lasted about 5 minutes before she was called up on stage to dance. I like to preview the goods before making any decision on heading back to the VIP. She was an old veteran so her dancing was basically pole twirling and she wasn't going to win any Olympic medals. She came back after her three song stage dance and resumed the conversation. I saw a familiar face that I had encountered at HC up the way, so I assume the talent may migrate back and forth. Mostly 20-something white girls dancing. Didn't see any bigger girls, but that's not really my thing anyways. Saw one ebony girl dancing on stage on my way out the door. The least attractive of the staff were probably the waitresses and shot girl. Shot hustle here is huge like any other of the Hamilton run clubs, but I only had to deal with one, instead of multiple. It's kind of annoying when you have three bottles of beer in front of you and they don't take the hint. It's also annoying when you spend money in these places and they treat you like you're there for a free show. Nevertheless, my time was limited, so after A--- got done with making the rounds to her regulars, I told her I was going to split and wanted to check out the VIP. $10 one time wrist band and I was back to the VIP. I made no negotiation beforehand, and I was really just curious to see where things would go. I admitted having been to other Hamilton clubs, but not this place, so I was basically a stranger. That being said, I told her I'd start at $40 and see where things went from there. I liked the curtained booths as this is a big improvement over the common 'chairs in a circle' dark area at other clubs where you see everything going on. Good amount of two way contact and LFK. Some clothes were adjusted, but nothing more than a little handiwork was performed. I stopped it at $100, because I've gotten more miles per gallon for less money. Good dance though nonetheless. I'm sure if I frequented the club more often, my MPG would probably be better and YMMV. I'll be back, because the club was pretty laid back, seemed to be smoke free (at least when I was there), and I liked the curtain booth aspect of the VIP. Of the dives I've been to in MI, this one ranks up there as the best. I never use the restrooms at these establishments, so I couldn't really tell you how they are. Area seemed safe and the staff was friendly.
