Starz doesn't get a lot of attention here, but if you're looking for some hot black dancers it's one of the best places in SoCal. Unfortunately, recently (last week) one of the managers got shot on a freeway a few miles from the club in what appeared to be just one more random LA freeway shooting. Hopefully it doesn't affect the club when it opens again next week. It is located in the hood, but during the day it's relatively safe, even for a white guy like me. For me, Starz is more like a locals hangout that has dancers. And many of the dancers tend to sit and BS with regulars, and usually won't come up to you and ask for a dance. The best way to get a dance is either to grab them if they walk by, or sit at the stage and tip them. You can ask them at the stage, or usually they'll come by after their set and thank you for the tip. I'm very partial to hot black dancers, and it certainly has them, but I'm also partial to high mileage laps, and those are the exception here. Laps are $15 each, done upstairs in private booths. If you're looking for mileage, dayshift is usually best. And don't expect much stick shifting and intentional grinding, although some girls do that and more. If they could drop the lap prices and kick up the mileage like some of its competitors, this place would be heaven. But still it's right up there if you prefer black dancers.
