WARNING--The town of Hamburg is under siege. They are scrambling to build a levee on the west side of town, near the railroad tracks, due to the expected Missouri River flooding from releases from the upriver dams. Geniez had an empty parking lot and was dark at 8 pm on Monday night. All of the carpet and couches and stuffed chairs were gone. All that was left were stacked metal chairs and a skeleton of a stage. It looks like the two or three businesses surrounding Geniez are shut down or will soon do so. There looks like a large pile of dirt closer to the old downtown. My interpretation: They are going to try and save the downtown with a new berm, but Geniez and some other businesses will be outside the protection and will be "sacrificed". Since the water will arrive within a week, and will probably be high for the next 2-3 months, all up and down the length of the Missouri, this might spell the end of Geniez. Call first before you come, just to see if they are even open. I can tell you they are definitely not open right now. And if they sustain any water damage, I wonder how they will recover. A sad day.
