After I visited Exotic Kitty’s, I had to reread the reviews to see if I had been to the same club as the reviews had covered. I had a much lower opinion of this strip club than the other reviewers. Perhaps because I visited the club on a Sunday night shortly after it opened, I saw the club at its worst. But since I was only travelling through Bakersfield, and because the next time in town I will visit another establishment before coming back to Exotic Kitty’s, I probably will never know.

The visit did not start out well with the high cover charge, and having to be subjected to a search by a wand to see if I had any weapons. The first question was is this a safe club? The free coca-cola was a bit of a compensation for the high cover, but I really didn’t like the physical layout of the place. There was a large stage in the center of the room. But the stage was so high, and the sets were so low, the floor of the stage was at eyelevel. It was easier to see the three television screens for a seat at the stage than the dancers. (And I strongly dislike television screens around the stage in a strip club. They foul up the lighting and are distraction to watching the dancers.) The chairs were also of poor design. The circular chairs felt like you were sitting in a bucket, and they were hard to get out of.

There were four dancers when I arrived a half hour after opening, ranging from 5’s to 7’s. More drifted in as the evening progressed. Although there sometimes were fewer patrons than dancers, the dancers did not circulate effectively. One in particular, after I had tipped her on stage, at the end of her set retreated to the dressing room, came out after a couple of minutes, and sat by herself paying attention only to her cell phone.

Exotic Kitty’s was running a 2 for 1 private dance special all night, and when they upped it to a 4 for 1 special I was game. Unfortunately, the songs were shortened to about a minute and a half apiece, and although there was decent contact, I felt that I had gotten nothing special. I tried one other dance the dancer I thought was the best looking dancer of the limited supply. She said that for an extra $20, she would let my hands roam, and proceeded to give a lame dance with little extra contact.

Needless to say, if I pass through Bakersfield in the near future, I will try another club before going back to Exotic Kitty’s.
