This is a classy joint. Made me feel out of place just being there. I prefer the grimier bar-type of club than the real ritzy upscale type. Pretty nice though. Not a bad place to visit for happy hour before a heavy metal show at the Culture Room. It's walking distance from there, so that's cool. Unlike it's neighbor two doors down, Pure Platinum, Solid Gold doesn't charge a cover for happy hour. That's what made up my mind when deciding which one would get my business.

As soon as you walk in you notice that the place is draped in velvet. You have to walk down a little hallways and down a ramp before you get to the actual main floor, which ended up being huge. Tootsies is the only club I can remember going to that is bigger. I immediately wondered if I was under-dressed there in a pair of jeans, sneakers, and a short-sleeve button-down shirt. I was relieved to see that despite the upscale look, the only other patrons there at this time was a guy wearing Miami Dolphins face paint, a dude in a t-shirt, shorts, & sandals, and a medium-sized group of ghetto looking dudes wearing wife-beaters throwing countless singles on the stage.

The happy hour special was a typical $6 2-for-1 domestics, which is not bad. I really milked that, although when the bartenders changed shifts, the new bartender gave me a real attitude and had to call the manager when I tried to get the back-end of one of my 2-for-1's. Also, the bar was a little far from the stage. Made me wish I had brought my glasses in with me.
