I was planning on eating at the Sizzler Steakhouse in Point Loma but was disappointed to see that the recession had shuttered yet another business. This was a nicer than average Sizzler and in a good location. Too bad. I had to settle for chicken kabobs at a Greek place in a small food court in a nearby strip mall. Of the 9 pads available there were only 4 small food outlets open. The Hustler Club (formerly Pacers) was just across the street and a block away so I decided to stop in for a scotch.
It was Saturday night around 6:30 pm and I walked in without paying a cover charge. I was sure they would have one later on in the evening. I sat at the bar and ordered a Dewars scotch; it was a decent pour at a reasonable price. When I lived in San Diego (86-02) Pacers was one of the better topless clubs in town. It’s since been remodeled and looks smaller in size because of an area of booths at the south end for the private dances. In the old days ‘table’ dances were performed right on the main floor on small mobile stages and it was really more fun since everyone could watch and enjoy. The private booths promise ‘more touching allowed’ but I wouldn’t count on much in San Diego. I would not buy any private dances this night and I saw no one else heading to the back either.
The bar is in between the two stages, the main stage right in front and the second stage on the opposite side but visible behind the bartender. At this time of night only the main stage was going. At the opposite end from the private dance area there is a covered outdoor patio area for people who are still addicted to cigarettes. There’s a barbeque out there and you can buy a hamburger or a hot dog and there’s a couple of TV sets. About 10 minutes into my visit two bouncers came speed walking out of the patio area pushing an armchair (they have wheels) between them towards the entrance. Seated in the rearward moving chair was a young man projectile vomiting out onto his lap and onto the floor while one bouncer tried to dodge the bile. They wheeled him and the chair outside and cleaned up the mess while the dancer on stage continued the show without missing a beat.
