I intended to visit a couple of places during my stopover at Newark but in the end only made one trip out to Delilah’s. The place would be easy to find in a car. It is reachable without one but involves a 30-minute walk through mostly quiet residential streets from South Amboy station. It’s a bit more industrial for the last quarter of a mile with one tricky but manageable road to cross. I wouldn’t want to do this walk in the dark though.

It’s a $15 entry and almost no one in the entire place has any change for anything, so if you plan on getting dances I would advise you to take a fistful of Jacksons. If you don’t fancy any dances, then I’d consider staying away in the daytime at least, because the place is not geared up to providing an entertaining stage show. It’s unenthusiastic to say the least. Most girls barely dance (some actually don’t dance at all) and if they do its only for long enough to wander over and say “Hi, I’m Cheri, fancy a private dance?”, or more likely, to cut to the chase, “fancy coming to the VIP room with me?”.

If I sound disappointed, I’m not, because I had an idea what to expect from previous reviews and I wanted to try the place. The lap dances are good with lots of contact with all the girls I danced with. However, every one of them gave me a hard upsell throughout every song for the VIP room. I was OK with them mentioning it once but it was so annoying to have to put up with them going on and on about this. The other annoying thing is that the girls don’t carry any money (apart from dollar tips at the stage). Instead they use a swipe card system that seems to charge in three-minute slots for lap dances and 30 minutes for the VIP room. I think it still worked out at $20 a song in the lap dance area but it is a weird system that makes it hard to keep count of what you are spending.
