This was an impromptu visit as I was passing on the way down to Milwaukee. Unfortunately it was not one of my better decisions. I went in because I was a little hungry and so I ordered some food. There was a dance in progress but I didn't realise she was the only girl working. She did three songs then for 15 or 20 minutes there was nothing until finally she danced again. As if that wasn’t bad enough, even during her songs she would stop and wait if no one was tipping, so when my food finally arrived I had to interrupt eating a few times to keep the dancing going, as the place was completely dead.
On the subject of food and drink, beer was at the upper end of the Portland price range and food was reasonably priced, but what the food gained on price it lacked in quality. I'm not sure if the fact the steak bites came only with a fork was because you were expected to go and hold them over a fire to finish cooking them or if they'd simply loaned all the chain saws out to the builders working out the back. And remind me never to eat fat coated fries under a u.v. lamp ever again!
I was fairly under-whelmed by this place overall. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that the dancing was due to the fact they'd only just opened, but that's no excuse for the food. It's a shame, because the ambience of the place with candlelit tables all overlooking a central large stage with a witty DJ was quite good. I kind of hope my somewhat downbeat review sharpens them up and brings some improvement. It wouldn't take much to make this a good place.
