I'd never been to a Deja...
I'd never been to a Deja Vu so I thought I'd give it a try. You'd have had a hard time persuading me that a visit to a strip club could be boring, but this visit was.
The automated nature of this club was immediately off-putting. At most clubs, when I enter during cover-charge hours there is a sexy babe at the door to welcome me and take my money. Here there is a cover charge all the time, taken by ... a cash machine that you slide your tenner into (accompanied by a skinny kid who helps you if the bill doesn't fit). Kind of like a peep show. Apparently the couch dance area works the same way, though I never checked it out.
There are big gaudy signs on the walls spelling out all the deals, specials, details etc. I'm used to wondering "what's on the menu" but here there were plastic-coated placards at the tables with the prices of couch dances, VIP sessions etc. Pretty much like a menu at Bennigans. It's hard to get too worked up about all this when you know mileage is likely to be limited and extras are largely non-existent. That's not the only reason I go to clubs, but I confess that the prospect - the possibiity that any encounter could really turn into something - is part of the allure. When that's missing, it's all a little drab.
