Prospector, is that a pickaxe in your pocket or just happy to see me?
What was The Bear Den is now just called The Den. While visiting Duces Wild in Salt Lake City, I kept meeting dancers who also danced here (or had) so I made a note to one day pay a visit to see what it's about. That day finally came. Well, it isn't much but it's got some things going for it. It's in a town called Magna out west of Salt Lake, at the base of the Oquirrh Mountains. A little hike to get to, it's a blue collar old mining town not too far off I-80. And the building looks like it was built by some old prospectors. It's a squat cabin that sits inconspicuously just off the center of town. Parking lot and entrance is in the back. You enter into a vestibule and then open the next door to step inside. Bar is immediately to the right with the main stage along the left wall, centered in the room. Chairs all around the stage with high tables and chairs further back and pool tables at the back of the room. The place is small and surprisingly bright inside. Maybe they dim the lights later in the evening but it felt like I was in my high school cafeteria. Walls are all blonde wood panels. Bathroom is tiny, for dwarves only - they have two urinals but when another dude came in it got a little too close for comfort. Bar staff was friendly - I got a pint of Blue Moon for $4. and they turned my Hamiltons into singles for me. I'm told their bar food is solid but didn't partake. Walked over and sat at the stage, which is a similar square pit stage like Duces Wild, only it has a real pole. Maybe 5 other customers in here when I visited at 6:30p Also similar to Duces Wild, this place has two dancers rotating every 15 minutes, with a new dancer taking the old one's spot every hour. Dancers start with lingerie, then strip down to thong and pasties (Utah law if alcohol is present). Dannicka was doing her thing when I sat down - she's tatted up and wears glasses - has a 20's pin-up look with nice natural B's and a shapely ass. She was super friendly to talk to and also dances at Southern Exposure where she dances fully nude. Next up was Venus, an energetic Latina with nicely dangling D's. Very approachable and talkative, she was way into her routine and clearly loved what she was doing. The dancers can't touch you and there are no lap dances or VIP areas here. Best you'll get is maybe a hug after they're done. Venus made me promise I'd come back again. Sorry Venus, this is probably a one and done for me. I don't come out this way very often but just wanted to check this off the list. It's a total locals joint, a bar that happens to have some chicks with pasties dancing. Looking at the rest of the line-up, they're in the 6-8 territory so way better than a typical local bar out in the sticks, just without the usual lap dance action, which yes, I agree, it sucks. If you happen to pay a visit, say hi to Gus Chiggins for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKoIESw1tdM
A cozy time at The Den
Let me preface this by saying I have business in Utah for the next few weeks and I ain't driving all the way to Vegas so it's local clubs or nothing. That being said, I had a better time than I expected here. It's a gray building on the street corner, the sign is decent but not lit up, probably helps keep the locals from complaining. I parked in the rear of the lot. The entrance door has a lit sign. At 7PM on a Thursday there was no cover. The town of Magna is probably the size of 6 city blocks in LA and by far less populated. That being said the four dancers I saw were far above my expectations for a place like this. You had better appreciate white spinners with natural chests (I do). They all had a little bit of a behind, but I don't think you PAWG guys out there would be satisfied. The PAWG ain't my thing so I only sort of understand what you guys are looking for. There was one latina with better natural curves all the way around. I thought she was attractive too. The place is an open square room, a few pool tables, a few regular tables. The single stage has a 2 1/2-ish foot high brass rail that the ladies used to good effect. The bar is across the room from the stage. They all had decent dance moves and used the pole a lot. Probably due to the fact that state law forbids lap dances in alcohol clubs. All 4 girls I saw were attractive, definitely 7's on my scale. They changed costumes between each set which I haven't seen in a while. I would have asked any of them for a lap dance if such things were offered. If you sit at the stage or stand at the rail and tip during the first song when they still have tops on, they will come over and get pretty close. After the tops coem off, they have to stay inside the rail I think. I didn't notice a lot of contact, but there were maybe 8 other customers and I got that weird feeling like they knew I wasn't a local and they weren't sure if I worked for the local vice team (I have to have short hair for the army, I've gotten that a lot in small clubs). All the dancers had a significant amount of ink. Of the three white girls, I really liked the shortest of the three with curly dark red hair the best. She wore knee socks instead of fish nets (that's a thing for me) and I felt like she moved more sensually on the stage. She never walked the floor after sets. The two taller white girls had long strait hair, I think they were both rocking some librarian style glasses if that's your thing. One of the two taller white girls would come out after her set and chill for a bit with some regulars she knew. So did the latina. No one gave any dances, they stayed covered by a robe while on the floor. I talked to local guy who has been coming here for years. He said the current owner is really tight on his hiring standards and has been for years. I guess the guy knows where to find them. Beers were 6 bucks for a Modelo bottle. No idea what they charged for shots. I tipped two to three dollars each time I walked up to the rail and dropped between 8 and 10 dollars during a set (sets varied between 3 -5 songs but that might have been a shift change effect). The other customers seemed to do the same. A couple guys who were clearly big fans of particular girls dropped a little more. From 7pm-9:30pm I spent 80 bucks between beer and tipping the girls and the bartender. It was a pleasant time. I might just swing back by.
Nice atmosphere, dancers lacking
I had a meeting in SLC, and decided to unwind at the Bears Den afterwards. First of all, it's one of the longest 15 minute drives I've ever taken, too me more like 30 min with traffic! I was actually pleasantly surprised with the club, it was clean and the lodge style decor was nice, in my opinion - but I grew up in the UP of Michigan, so It's what I'm used to. Had a seat at the bar and decided to have a couple of drinks while I waited for a dancer to turn up. After 5-6 drinks, one finally did, and she wasn't much too look at. I'm a fan of the more "natural" bodies you get out west, but the bodies by Little Debbie don't have any place in a strip club. That dancer did her set, and disappeared, leaving an empty stage. Another 5-6 drinks later, another dancer took the stage and even though I had some serious beer goggles on by then, she was also not what I'd consider strip club material - even giving her the benefit of the doubt for it being afternoon and a smaller club. After her set (and another long break), the 1st dancer came back on, and I decided to head to more fertile pastures. I had a nice time, and everyone there was super nice, but the girls just didn't do it. I'd be more titillated taking some Jack in a coke can to the park and watching the girls in their sundresses or workout clothes pass by. I may give it another shot come nighttime, but definitely don't want to get stuck in Magna with a buzz and a boring 30 minute drive back to civilization again!
