Americans on the extreme right and left are motivated to defend their pre-existing beliefs (ego-justification) and their political ideology (system-justification).
The UNDENIABLE REALITY IS THAT:

Yep. It's a chess game. We're on the board and if we get taken off, and one side loses, we're gone, they shake hands, reset the board and play again.
