Airplane Metal Detection for Traveling to Mexico
Owlyoung_ggofvSouthern Libertine
How sensitive are the metal detectors in airlines. It has been years since I have flown.
Will they have a problem with the zippers in my underwear? I have hidden pockets. I'm flying from the US to Mexico.
I am bringing condoms and Viagra to Mexico. I know they have those things, but I'm trying to reduce costs where possible. Do I need to keep my money and video games in the room safe during the day?

last commentDefinitely keep your money and video games in the room safe. And I don’t see any problem with the money belt (if that’s what you refer to when you say “zippers in my underwear”). But don’t wear the money belt while going to security - once you clear, go to the nearest restroom and find an open stall where you can put it on.

It's not so much the metal detectors, as the back scatter xray machines, or whatever they're called. I fly about 8 times a year. About 2 years the machine has been alerting on my groin area every single time. Leads to a back-handed pat down of the area. I don't have any metal there, so you're going to trigger something, I bet.
Why not just carry the condoms and pills in your carry on? That's not illegal or suspicious.

The millimeter wave scanners always mistake my bulging quad muscles for smuggling something.
It's an ego kick. LOL.

^^ Rightfield - same thing happened to me. I get back of hand on my dick 100% of the time for the last two years, about 15 lights. The problem? I was wearing the same clothes after a big weight loss. TSA regulations require them to hand search "a large empty space". They even showed me how the front of my shorts were so baggy that they showed a large open space. My statement of "as a lay person I know nothing about all of this but it seems to me that an open space, no matter how large, actually has nothing in it, so it cannot be dangerous so gropping to affirm nothing is there is silly. Fill disclosure this has not happened the 3 times I flew first class out of Boston.

@shailynn, don't worry these posts will die down soon enough. I just excited about the trip.
Even I think I have posted more often than I normally do.

Zippers seem to be metal, and jogger sweats often have metal tips on the strings to tighten them. Shoelace tips too, sometimes. I suspect these things arent real metal or just the amount of metal in them isnt enough to trigger the scanners.
