Regular season:Peyton Manning Postseason: Joe Montana
Ace to start the game of your life: I really would pick Tom Seaver but as to not show bias, Greg Maddux. Postseason I might go Schilling.
Hitter for not making an out: if roids count Roided up Barry Bonds. Comtemportary: Best I’ve seen at just not getting out is probably Joey Votto. But all time: Ted Williams.
Picking quarterbacks I was torn between Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, & Joe Montana, I decided to go with Eli Manning because he’s the guy who messed up the G. O.A. T Tom Brady’s superbowl game record.
Pitchers I know a lot of you guys might say Bob Gibson, or Sandy Koufax, but the Amazing Mets wouldn’t have been amazing without Tom“Terrific” Seaver
And as far as clutch hitters go Reggie Jackson wasn’t called “Mr. October” for nothing.
I will say that if the category was the most crazed sports moment ever, George Brett's face as he came sprinting from the dugout after his home run was reversed and he was called out remains my favorite sports moment of all time. The sheer insanity of the moment is, was and always will be priceless. Nothing could ever say "I just totally lost it" better than the look on his face.
^nettles noticed the huge amount of pine tar that brett used on his bat and told billy martin about it. martin said he would use this info for another time. if you had pricked brett's jugular vein with a pin the moment he sprung out of that dugout blood would have exploded and landed on a passing by 4 train.
It's also a different question if you're comparing dominance in their era vs how they'd fare today. In my younger days they called 90 a plus fastball, now topping out at 90 means you might not even get called up no matter how good everything else is.
I could never choose a pitcher of yore vs someone who just wasted hitters in an era of advanced sport science. Pedro clowned hitters in the steroid era.
For those couple of people saying Pete Rose, please remember that he holds the record for the most outs as well as most hits. He had 10,328 outs in his 15,890 plate appearances meaning he was out in more than 65% of his plate appearances.
For pitchers, most everyone has mentioned starting pitchers to win a big game. But if it came down to reliever for a final inning or final batter, I’m picking Bruce Sutter early in his career. I know a lot will say Mariano Rivera, but Sutter threw the split fingered fastball, something no one had really seen before, he was nearly unhittable early in his career
For QB I would probably concede Brady after that comeback against Atlanta.
Pitcher I would pick Madison Bumgarner based on his World Series stats of 1 run in 36 innings amounting to a 0.25 ERA. There are no bigger games than World Series Games. There were numerous pitchers that we a lot better over their career. however.
Barry Bonds was the only hitter I ever saw get walked with the bases loaded in a game that AZ was leading the Giants by 2 runs.

Ted Williams for OBP.

I'll keep Pedro (his prime wasn't super long but it was insane) or maybe Bob Gibson or Sandy Koufax. If just one inning, give me Mariano Rivera.
Bob Gibson
Bonus: Michael Jordan
Pedro or Eck if I had to close. Regular or post season.
Tony Gwynn because he smacked around the best pitchers without great protection in the lineup, the DH or a hitters home park most of his career.
Fernando Valenzuela
Ichiro Suzuki
Greg Maddox
Pete Rose
pitcher: 1986 mike scott-master of the scuff ball
hitter: george brett

Schilling was a more outspoken guy next to the notoriously introverted Johnson, so he got painted as an equal.
