Damn. Was closed last time I was in Miami. But I remember seeing the building and sign. Wanted to visit just because of the name. I’m going to be in Miami again in a couple of weeks, but alas.
Per the article the club goes back to the early-80s - I thought/assumed it went back further than that – I came from Cuba in 1979 at age 9 and I remember driving by that club w/ my family as a little kid and seeing that club b/c it had the drawings of dancers on the outside making it obvious what it was even as a little-kid.
I visited this club a handful of times in the 2000s while I lived in Dallas but would come backhome for summer and Christmas vacations – it was alright but not the best club in SoFlo but I assume it was the shit back in the 80s.
The club was closed post the great recession in 2009 and remained closed till recently when it reopened in 2019 – I went once post reopening and it was alright but not great especially compared to what’s available today in SoFlo – seems they had put some $$$ into that old-ass building and the club looked pretty-good – was kinda surprised it closed so soon after reopening after so many years being closed and the amount of $$$ one would assume they put into the reopening – seems tthey never reopened post the Covid shutdown(?); I drove by there a few weeks ago on a weeknight and noticed it was closed and had been meaning to drive by on a Fr or Sat night to make sure b/f telling Founder it was closed but had not made it back to that area.
"According to Alexis Donatacci, a spokesperson for the venue, the club will relaunch later this year as a performance-art nightclub called Krave Miami. Donatacci describes it as a "sexy circus of naughtiness and insanity." She says she will work as a greeter, spanking patrons' butts as they enter."
I assume the new venue will be a flop given all there is to do in Miami plus that area is kinda ran-down with not that much around it although it's fairly close to the airport and all the nearby hotels but it's not exactly in LOS
