Where am I?

A dark crowded room. Cover charge. Entertainment. Drinks from $4-6. Snacks from $5-8. Noisy, people talking, some not paying attention to the entertainment. Young adults clusted together. Employees standing around, not paying any attention to the customers. Security standing guard to make sure no one does anything wrong.

Must be a strip club you say..... nope

Dance/Nightclub.... wrong again

Local coffeehouse.... strike three!

Hard to believe, but this was the scene at a major chain movie theater this past weekend. I hadn't been to a real movie theater in a while. With On-Demand, Blockbuster and Netflix, there really is no need. But we did and boy what shock. Tickets to get in $9.50. Small Coke $4.00, Small Popcorn $5.00, Bag of Twizzlers $3.75. I passed on the snacks. What a friggin ripoff!!!! The theater was dirty, People sat talking loudly to each other or into their cell phones. Groups of teens, both boys and girls, acted like they were the only ones in the room. Theater employees standing around like zombies, just doing the minimum to keep their jobs. Rent-a-cop standing at customer service looking important and sticking his nose into other people's business.

Cost of the evening for us was $25. Not sure how young couples with little kids do it. Lady in front of us in line said she was paying a babysitter $10 per hour to watch her kids while she and her hubby were watching a movie. Add in the large popcorn and drink and it was a $65 evening for them.

Decided to call the home office of the theater chain to express my displeasure with the entire experience. LOL!!! They had absolutely no interest in hearing my complaints. I got the usual "We'll pass you comments along to management" and "We are a business" comments. Same old crap.

Looks like it will be a long time before I see a movie on a big screen again.
Shot Disc---good article, but there are ways to save on the cost---go to a matinee, and the tickets are only $7----obviously, the concessions are too high--so don't buy a soda or food and you haven't spent any money there--a lot of times, I just take in my own drinks and/ or food so I save money there, but you have to sneak them past the people that work there, obviously---I hadn't gone to a movie at the theater for years, but just recently I started going again because a brand new theater just opened up nearby and they have a really nice facility---if you want to save on money, just keep an old popcorn box and an old drink container that you got from the theater and when you go, just put your own popcorn and drink into the container---the theater personnel will never know that you are reusing an old box and that way you don't have to pay the high concessions costs----reg theaters have a frequent buyer program where you get free drinks and popcorn if you go a certain number of times (which you won't be doing), but I've gotten a free popcorn this way---some of my old friends went to see two or three movies at a time when they went to movies---obviously, I would never do this, but they saved some money that way
