Enjoying My New Hobby

I entered a first strip club for the first time a little under a year and a half ago. Girlfriends and shyness kept me away for the first 30 years of my life. It's clear now that I had been missing out.
Something I'm still learning is how to turn down a dance from a dancer I don't find attractive. My initial strategy was decline the dance, but offer to buy them a drink and chat instead. In most cases, this worked well. It was beneficial for me to learn about the club, and I enjoyed talking to dancers who were good conversationalists. I even heard some very good stories. (Whether I thought they were true or not.)
My first encounter with my ATF started out by declining a dance, but offering to buy her a drink instead. It was my first time ever to a club, and I had just returned to my seat from getting a dance. For some reason I got the feeling she thought I was an easy mark (probably right), and I'd just hand my wallet over to her. As we got talking, her intelligence and sense of humor in addition to her long legs, firm breasts, and pierced nipples made her incredibly attractive. We had great chemistry in the VIP area, and enjoy an ongoing professional relationship.
Sadly this strategy hasn't always worked so well. Sometimes I have trouble getting dancers to leave. One particular dancer seemed content to just sit at my table. As I tried to strike up a conversation she replied with one word answer after one word answer. It became apparent that she was high, so I tried in the nicest possible way to get her to end this incredibly awkward conversation. After about an hour of me talking about myself, politics, and any boring topic I could think of, I decided to leave the club.
After the disaster of my last encounter, I decided to try honesty and simply say "no thanks" if I didn't want a dance. I've now found that honesty isn't always the best policy. After turning down a dancer, I later watched her approach a dancer who was going to freshen up before giving me a dance. That dancer never returned from the dressing room, and I was shut out the rest of the night. A coincidence?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
