Bad Sex Scam

I was viewing a sexy video of the delectable Michelle Maylene on the free Xvideos.com when suddenly a message came up from the "Department of Justice". It said that they were working with my provider and seizing my computer for my viewing child porn, or if not that, at least illegal porn. [For the record, I have never viewed child porn, and of course this video was not illegal.] It said that if I paid $300 by getting a money order and entering the number into the box on the screen within 48 hours they would let me off "this time". If I didn't pay, they said I would be prosecuted for a jail sentence plus hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. It said that meanwhile they were seizing my computer and shutting it down. That part was true. But it was clearly absurd that the Dept of Justice would let you off a serious charge simply by paying $300, and I hadn't been doing anything remotely illegal or wrong. So I tried to shut down my window. I Control/Alt/deleted out of it. Then I turned off my computer but the damn message was still on when I turned it back on, even after waiting an hour to do so. I searched the Web, and found out that this is a particularly vile scam. Of course, paying the $300 does you no good. They are not going to take their virus off your computer; they just take your money. In fact there are some who believe that the virus destroys your computer over time. I did not pay the scam, of course, but I went to my antivirus programmers. By my paying to upgrade my antivirus program to a higher level for 3 years, my antivirus people wiped it off at no charge after 5 hours of work remotely. (There are suggestions on the Web for doing it yourself, but you have to be very good with computers to get rid of this virus on your own.) All has been fine with my computer for about a week. Obviously this scam is more effective on people who are viewing sex-oriented materials, so I think that is where the virus usually comes from, although many people, especially gamers, claim they got it without viewing any. You might think that only a fool would fall for the scam, but there is something scary about a child porn accusation and you might not think clearly with one over your head. A Denver guy who works with kids testified on the Web that, terrified he would lose his livelihood, he paid before he realized that didn't work anyway. I wonder if the jerk(s) who started this scam are also antiporn nuts and like to hurt people who enjoy sexy videos on the Web. Probably, though, it is just about the money.
