The "Bars" in Zona Norte
So as I mentioned in my previous article post, it is VERY important to pop your head in to EVERY bar you can. Find the one you like and stay there. Experiment. We're all different and we all have different taste. I may hate a bar you love. I'll tell you my thoughts and experiences and I hope those help you see some similarities in your experiences.
So instead of starting at the bottom and work my way to the top, I'm going to try to go from one side of the street to the other.
Club Chicago
This bar is located just off the corner of Constitution and Calle Coahula. It's a pretty sharp looking bar out front, but almost dead on the inside. I was in just long enough to see that there was really no one there and left. Something about an almost empty bar in Mexico that concerns me... LOL Also, Chicago did not have anyone out front recruiting patrons.
La Gloria
Caddy-corner from Chicago. I did not go in to this bar. Did not see anyone go in, so I didn't waste my time.
Adelita Bar
I DID frequent this bar. It is a front-facing bar to Calle Coahula without a walkthrough to Callejon. Adelita is either the #1 or #2 brothel in TJ depending on who you talk to. I think it comes down to atmosphere. On each visit to this bar, I found a PLETHORA of women just WAITING for attention. It was actually really fun just to stand there, drink a Dos Equis and watch the crowd. QUITE a few of the women were stunning. There was a woman for almost EVERY taste of man. Short, tall, thin, thick, old, young, dark hair, light hair, straight hair, curly hair, lots of clothes, little clothes. I didn't get rates for the girls as I didn't really find anything I liked. There IS ONE stage with a brass pole and ring in the middle of the bar and red booths surrounding it. If you sit aside the bar, plan on tipping as the girls dance and stop for tips every so often. Almost every man had a woman with him and that woman was drinking a Tecate. (See my bar review of Adelita to understand the meaning) There WERE guys outside beckoning men in and again the LOVE gringos. I think the VIP area and access to the hotel is in the back. Just a fun place to kick back and watch the crowd. No drink specials. Beers are $4. No cover.
Between
There was a live band playing between the Adelita and Hong Kong. Kind of fun to listen to. Also, LOTS of taxis sitting around just waiting to give you a ride wherever you want to go.
Las Chavelas
This bar is right next to Hong Kong and a passthrough to Callejon. Nice way to get from one street to another if you don't want to walk around. This is a long bar with two small dance floors. I found almost NO attractive women in this bar. 90% of the patrons were native to Mexico. TRULY forgettable. Again, no cover. Barkers to get you to come in. The ONLY nice thing about this bar is that every night I was there they were offering 2 for 1 on all beers. Nice place to drink for $2 a beer, then wander. Very little to look at otherwise. The theme in this bar was very "country western".
Mermaid's
This "massage/bar" is directly across from Chavelas. I was roped into going in to this place by one of the barkers out front. He promised I could sit down and they would bring out 6 women I could choose from for a sensual massage. I don't recall the price. It was a really fun experience. I sat down on a leather couch, then they called women down from upstairs that all came down and stood in line. I looked at every one of them and didn't think any of them were worth what they wanted, so said NOPE and left. Still a really fun experience. I recommend it if you're lit and up for some fun. Something you will NEVER experience in the states. ("here let me bring out a line of women you can choose from to have sex with" LOLOLOL)
Hong Kong
I will have an article just for this bar by itself. This bar is #1 in TJ. There are just more reasons to spend your night here over any other bar. There is typically no cover to the bar. The last night I was there they did have a cover that you had to buy a can of Tecate each time you went in. I guess that's better than just cash cover. Again, they have a staff to becon you in, but they don't work too hard. They don't have to. Some of the HOTTEST women work this bar. They have two large stages and 6 small pole stages. All of the girls take turns dancing at the stages. The bar has two levels accessible from the back, front, and middle of the bar. There are three bars you can buy drinks from. No drink specials. Beers are $4. The have a "coat check" which is GREAT. Their waiters are VERY attentive, especially if you tip them. There is a ramp between the front and back where all the girls stand in line so you can just take your pick. You can also pull any woman down from the smaller stages to sit with you and drink or go upstairs. Their "private dance" booths are upstairs and are $22 regular price. Hong Kong has all kinds of coupons on their website, which I encourage you to use. Coupons can be used every night and will get you there free, back free, free cover, free appetizer, free beer, and half price private dance. I recommend timing it so you get to see the whipped cream show. See my review. It's GREAT. With an entrance on both sides of the street, again, it makes it convenient to pop in and out from either side of the street.

Protocol
Just a quick note I continue to make. DO NOT BUY DRUGS in Mexico. DO NOT DRINK IN PUBLIC or carry alcohol. They are VERY intolerant of alcohol on the streets!!!!! DO NOT CARRY ANY KIND OF WEAPON. You won't need it. If you think you do, you're not in the right area of TJ...get out.
Food
I think I visited every food vendor on the streets for a taco. They were GREAT!!! Unless you TRULY LOVE seafood, AVOID seafood. They don't make it like they do here in the US. It is raw. It is bare. Not breaded, fried, or grilled. Stick with chicken, chorizo, pork, or steak (carne asada). Something I thought was SOOO cool was that when you got your taco, every stand had fresh sides all sitting in front of you in bowls with tongs or ladles. It was GREAT. Tacos are almost all $1 or $1.20. (don't ask me why some stands were 20 cents more) REMINDER: NO FOOD IS ALLOWED ACROSS THE BORDER. Eat it or throw it away.
End of night. Will publish my closing comments on best to get out of TJ and my thoughts. I would go back to these bars ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

Also, you're often better off just buying beers from the bartender directly, where you're not even really obligated to tip in my opinion (although I'll sometimes do it anyway).
I know I say this a lot, but a lot of the reviews here on TUSCL about TJ err a bit on the more rookie side to approaching TJ. The good thing is, you'll certainly still have fun that way, but with a proper approach and discipline you can have even more fun and weed out the girls that aren't GFE, etc. (if that's something you seek, and for me, it certainly is). Of course, I just mean that in the sense that they're laid back, not clock watchers, and down for a more intimate session, instead of just vanilla sex.
HK is a great club, and has amazing talent, but there's also lots of girls that are trying to charge higher rates, especially on the weekends. Some girls will quote you $100 for sex and then they'll be a ridiculous clock watcher, so bear that in mind as well. That's the worst case scenario, but the funny thing I've noticed is I tend to get better service with girls who charge LESS.
