For The Love of Dallas

A friend asked me what my hang up with Mexicans and strippers was? Why do I only go after those girls?

I guess I watched too many Westerns as a kid. The love interest is always the Indian maiden, the Mexican maid, or for everyone here... the saloon girl - Delilah in Unforgiven, Lorena in Lonesome Dove, Jill in Once Upon a Time in the West, Big Nose Kate in Tombstone, or Dallas in Stagecoach. They were these girls with hearts of gold, as dangerous and beautiful as the land they're in, but not nearly as respected. Some of them were stronger or kinder, or more honest than the others, but they were all better that what the town deemed them. They came from humble means and like their male conterparts did what they had to survive in a savage land and ultimately supported the community for the better. And in the end, they were the ones to either help or be helped by the good guy.

Strip clubs are somewhat better off than the saloons of past. But drunkards still come to pass the time, men still get shot in anger, and women still get intimate for money, the last two just happen to a lesser degree.

I guess the romance of the wild west and looking for it in a strip club also explains why I see these establishments as places of entertainment first. A place where time can be spent drinking, socializing, relaxing, and at the end of the night, spending some time with a saloon girl.

It also explains my attitude of demanding respect for these girls and allowing them thier limits. Sure there are liars and thieves and addicts and countless anecdotes of negative experiences. These things happen! It comes with the territory. But it's worth treating each of them with respect for that one good girl who deserves it, needs it, and will appreciate it. Hell, it's what Ringo did for Dallas!
