Seattle firefighters had the fire at Rick's in Lake City under control in less than an hour after it started.

UPDATE: The fire caused $650,000 in damage and was most likely caused by electrical wiring in the ceiling, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore.

Workers had been doing electrical work and painting earlier in the day, he said, but no one was in the building at the time of the blaze and nobody was injured.

Flames shot through the roof and there was heavy smoke. It took 30 to 40 minutes to "knock it down," according to Moore. Extra crews were called to the scene.

EARLIER POST: The building formerly known as Rick's Nightclub, a notorious strip club on Lake City Way, caught fire about 7 p.m. Thursday.

Seattle firefighters soon had the fire under control, and were cutting holes in the roof to ventilate the blaze, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore. Smoke was still billowing at 7:35 p.m.
