The voice of truth and reason
Looking at his RNC speech and comments this weekend, Trump is a sick man, whether it's cognitive or character or both.

- We'll have to disagree about what constitutes "overthrowing a republic," but Hillary Clinton and Stacy Abrams also deny their election results.
Yeah, you are biased. I don't recall Clinton and Abrams mounting a coordinated and sustained effort to cast doubt on the election results, having a fake electors plot, and urging the Vice President to not certify the election results, even trying to get him in a car and drive him off site so he couldn't do his job. There's no comparison with the scale of what Trump and his team did and the examples you cite.

Guess you missed the point, dopey. Those are not figures I usually cite, but they were in response to others repeating right wing talking points out of context. Of course context is important. If someone wants to pin all the Covid-related issues that happened under Biden on Biden, then one should equally pin all the issues that happened under Trump on Trump. Fair, no?
This post did have out of context facts but was in jest, which you missed. Let's see if you're willing to call out similar posts from the TUSCL right wingers. If you can't, then I will conclude you are biased.

A good development which I anticipated.
This once again demonstrates Biden's good judgement and character. He is a true patriot.
Part of me would like to see a process not just a coronation, but I'll be OK if it's Harris.
In the few hours since the announcement, we've seen a flood of the usual lies, deception and vitriol from Trump and his supporters. That alone should be sick enough to dissuade some voters who may be on the fence. I'd like to see Harris (or whoever) rise about the endless bullshit from the right and counter it with class, tact and on-point facts to acknowledge where Dems have fallen short, where Dems have delivered, and present a superior vision for the future of our country.

I had a pleasant experience with a Trump supporter today.
A hot Brasileira, easily an 8.5. I'd been with her once before, but it had been awhile. We were cozy bar side having a drink, with some flirty petting in all the right spots, talking about her small side business. At one point she somehow brought up that she likes Trump and doesn't like Biden. We kept talking and later in the convo she again came back to politics and asked if I liked Biden. Instead of wading into Trump vs. Biden, I just simply explained why I believe Democrat policies are generally better for the poor and middle class. She smiled with a hint of embarrassment and promised "no more politics!". Later in the VIP it was one of the most hardcore sessions I've had at this club. Full on DFK, BBBJ, FS and CIM finish. I won't hold her politics against her.

Biden and camp will continue to say he's staying in the race, until he isn't. The dissent has started to reach the highest levels of the party, who along with Biden know the importance of the media, donors and voter enthusiasm all down the ticket. It's about pragmatism not just loyalty. Multiple reports now indicate a transition from "refusal" to "review"... we will see.

Dems will certainly put the spotlight on Trump's "achievements" in his one term as well. Swing state advertising will address both character and policy.
Contrary to Trump's lies, he didn't build a great economy he inherited it. Under Obama, the unemployment rate came down from a high of 10% to 4.7%. Trump rode Obama's coattails down to 3.5%. The charts show it very clearly. Trump's only economic achievement he can take credit for are the individual and corporate tax cuts, which were a net massive giveaway to the rich. A chimpanzee in the Oval Office could have done the same job, and probably better, as we would not have exploded the debt to help the top 10%.

Characterizing Trump's ideology as "winning" is reasonable.
This can be a good thing where he's motivated to have good outcomes for key issues. He'll take the credit whether it was really due to him or not, but that can be tolerable if it's a good outcome like jobs, wage growth, security, energy, etc.
Where the problem comes in is his character. In order to win, we've seen time and again how he is willing to lie, deceive, and break the law in order to win. One need look no further than the long list of people who worked closely with him and have subsequently spoken out against him. And there is no greater example than Mike Pence. Just refresh on the events of January 6, what Trump and his team tried to do with Mike Pence, and how Trump reacted to the day's events including the chants of "Hang Mike Pence" (he chanted along).
Now, Trump and his supporters would like us to forget these things, to dismiss and invalidate the threat to democracy he posed, and is likely to pose again, now that he's completely surrounded himself with election deniers.
We just have to remember two words to understand what Trump is willing to do to "win": Mike Pence.

>It's pure left wing blindness not to notice he didn't invade under Trump
Of course I notice that. You are blind if you think I don't.
But nobody knows what Putin's plans were for 2016-2020. Russia had just annexed Crimea in 2014 and it's very plausible Putin was solidifying a new base before moving to his next phase. How do you know Putin was definitely planning to invade again in 2016-20 but Trump got elected and deterred him? Are you psychic? Anyone who states this as a fact is detached from reality.

>Simple facts and to say otherwise makes your opinion and statements here valueless.
Here's a few more facts:
- Under Trump, the economy lost 2.9 million jobs. The unemployment rate increased by 1.6% to 6.3%.
- The U.S. trade deficit in goods and services in 2020 was the highest since 2008 and increased 40.5% from 2016.
- The number of people lacking health insurance rose by 3 million.
- The federal debt held by the public went up, from $14.4 trillion to $21.6 trillion.
- The murder rate rose to the highest level since 1997.

>Ukraine wouldn't be in the position it's in if Trump was still President.
LOL It's pure right wing fantasy to think Trump would have deterred Putin in a second term. I'm going to spend even less time than you did, arguing with an idiot.
Speculating on the past is ultimately a waste of time. What matters is where we are now and what happens next. Ceding Ukrainian territory to Russia will not make the US respected again, just the opposite.

Russia became stronger under Trump, and weaker under Biden.
Now Putin is counting on a Trump/Vance win to cede Ukraine territory and help Putin win. What a shameful moment that will be for the US if that happens.

I wonder why Trump even had to find a new VP? With JD Vance, Trump has now fully surrounded himself with election deniers, people who are ready to again attempt to subvert the will of the American people if the next election results do not go their way.

>the Republicans are the ones that raise taxes.
@goldeneagles9 - At first I thought you were completely off on this comment, but then I remembered that Trump's SALT cap increased my tax bill in NJ. But generally, Republicans are the ones who cut taxes, usually in a way that increases economic inequality. It would be good to have a discussion / debate about the merits of Biden's vs Trump's tax plans.

Oy vey. Biden has signed plenty, some of which you've probably heard of and are conveniently or willfully forgetting. There will be plenty of advertising in the runup to November to remind Americans.

The Bennie Thompson staffer who made that idiotic comment was fired, as they should have been. The bill he introduced may be getting twisted a bit - it seems the intent was to address a potential conflict between Secret Service and prison security responsibilities and ensure prison time is actually served vs. house arrest. In any event it doesn't seem the bill has any actual chance of passing.
I know gamma is desperate for someone to say something nice about Trump. Here goes:
Yes, he is not a monster or a tyrant, and should be treated with respect and dignity as the prospective Republican Party nominee for President. He seems like a nice guy with a good heart... when you're on his side and it benefits him. But he has severe character flaws that make him unfit for President.
