Just to be clear - men competing in women's sports is not something most on the left support, despite the attempts of some right wingers to portray it so. I'm not totally clear what the status of this boxer is, but if he/she was born a male then I wouldn't support them competing against women in sports.

Only someone who doesn't bother to do any research, the hallmark of a low information voter, would conclude this was a survey by the Guardian. It looks like it's pretty much already settled, it turns out. The latest survey of scholars of American presidents was published last February, and Biden was included based on the first 3 years of his presidency. He came in 14th. It makes sense to refer to a neutral third party, in this case a group of 154 experts. Democrats are going to focus on Biden's accomplishments. While Republicans will focus on his perceived failures, even stooping to things like Afghanistan that most people don't remember or care about, except the most desperate online right wing shills. For someone obviously of legal age there should be no need to show ID. I don't patronize any club that asks me to show ID. Needless to say, any club that would ask to SCAN my ID would be avoided like the plague.

Hey 5footguy, why aren't you calling out Puddy Tat for pinning 20% inflation on Biden? Inflation was low under Trump, "and then this thing called "Covid" hit", and it's well documented that the unprecedented disruptions in supply vs. demand were a significant cause of inflation (in addition to stimulus spending). Pinning inflation entirely on Biden is either stupidity, or intentionally misrepresenting facts - would you agree?

Biden will be remembered as a good to great President, who led the country during a period of great volatility. Weak points on inflation and immigration, yes. But he navigated the aftermath of the deadliest pandemic in US history, helping restore a strong US economy and avoid a recession that was widely predicted. He restored confidence and respect for the US, and demonstrated strong leadership in working with our allies to address global conflicts and aggression from dictatorships. He had numerous significant legislative achievements, addressing infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing, green energy, climate change and prescription drug prices. He will be remembered as a strong defender of democracy on both international and domestic fronts.

My take on the Opening Ceremonies. Unfortunately I only saw an hour of it, watching in a go-go bar lol. Huge credit to France for trying something different. Given a choice, I'd prefer the traditional stadium-only format but it was good to see something different. Lady Gaga was good and Celine Dion was great. I too wondered why they weren't featuring French artists. The only name I could think of was Alizee (a major French hottie 20 years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52kwqBMxQYQ). The drag stuff was dumb and should have been dropped. The Team USA intro with Beyonce was OK... I recall The Rock did a Team USA intro a few years ago that was much better. Overall a decent start to the games.

I did some research on the trans topic and came to the same conclusion as Hank - there is not a single instance of a woman competing against a man in the 2024 Olympics. Anyone saying otherwise is peddling right wing lies and fear-mongering.

It's also well documented that the economy tends to perform better under Democratic presidents than Republican. @rickdugan I am no expert on the spectrum of voters on either side. I suppose some small % of Dems could buy into this latest right wing crock that a few prominent Dems ganged up on Biden and essentially forced his decision. But look at the long list of people who spoke up following the debate: 32 House members, 5 Senators, various celebrities and media outlets. Are we supposed to believe Obama and Pelosi orchestrated all that ? Puhleez. Further, it was all done with great respect to Biden, acknowledging his tremendous career of service. Biden will continue to reinforce his support for Harris and the importance of this election with the same message he gave tonight, right up to election day. Anyone still thinking Biden got shafted is going to hear Biden's message many times. Very hard to envision any scenario where a significant number of these voters still stay at home and don't vote, at the risk of electing Trump. It would be a complete contradiction to the outcome they know Biden cares deeply about.

It wasn't a sure thing, but the tea leaves were flashing strong signals. Rickdugan you didn't see them but that's OK. It might look like "ganging up", but the more honest characterization is that a wide spectrum on the left spoke up out of concern for their party, the election and the country. Saying they were disloyal seems like another cheap swipe to make Dems look bad. If you think some loyal Biden supporters will now seem betrayed and be an obstacle to the party uniting around a new leader, I am certain you will again be proven wrong.
