Certainly sounds about right. In fact I have a sneaking suspicion it will be great for clubs and dancers, but not a good value for experienced club-goers who are looking for the steak (hot girls, good dances) and not just necessarily the sizzle (crowds, atmosphere, high cover charge). I still can't help but think there might be a bunch of stunners working the clubs that week, but it's probably a case of letting my imagination get the better of me. I remember being in Vegas for SuperBowl weekend a couple of years ago and it was not appreciably better than a normal weekend there.

I don't live in Tampa but I've been to Mons many times. I'm considering visiting the club during the GOP convention. My thinking is: 1) it will be super-busy but there will be lots of freelancers dancing there and likely more hot women than normal as a result 2) Redner will indeed raise the cover (as he's suggested) to $50 3) Because of the action and the high rollers in town, I see dances being $30 minimum and less deals to be had (not sure the usual 3-for-$60 is gonna fly when the girls have rich Republicans around willing to spend lots of cash...thinking they will be able to net $30 per dance 4) it might be hard to wrangle the girl you want since the crowds will be so dense 5) quality of lap dances is a real interesting question: I sense the grinding and mileage if anything will be down somewhat since there will be a few non-Mons girls around who aren't used to giving the great dances common to the place but this one could go either way I'm curious what other tuscl members think Tampa strip clubs and Mons in particular will be like during the convention Aug 27-30 but also the weekend Aug 31-Sept 1 as I'd guess the weekend should still retain some post-convention buzz...

Any chance of getting the bathroom guy to even somewhat tone down the obnoxiousness if a couple of regulars say something to management? Or does everyone have to just get the hell annoyed out of them now when they go take a whizz?

I do occasionally go to New Locomotion and Cafe Atlantis. Maybe I've had bad luck there, but I never see too many hot women on the nights I go and I do hit Fri-Sat nights. The girls do definitely trend younger, but I just haven't seen the numbers of hot young girls I see in US clubs in Tampa, Atlanta or Vegas. There's also the rip-off factor to consider at the airport clubs. It's like the wild west out there.

Agree with the comment above about scam artists here. I would say, per capita, this club had the most ripoff artistry of any club I've ever visited in North America. While Rhino in LV is more straight-up hustle, there isn't the classless overcounting, drink scams, starting in the middle of a song, girls saying they will only dance if you do X amount of songs, etc. as there were here. Has this reduced since the ownership change? Is there a tangible difference in management's attitude towards this lately? Because there is no way the club could have tolerated the previous scammery unless management was passively letting it happen/tacitly supporting it...

The EE women here are some of the worst ripoff artists.

Accurate review. You will find an uptick in quality on Friday or Saturday nights but it isn't all that dramatic.

Sounds about right. Though I've heard (and experienced) that Jan is a good month to visit as well (snowbirds visiting).

Unless Joe's Pizza next door has experienced serious inflation, or you gave them a huge tip, they don't charge $10/beer. $3.25 for a Bud Light if I recall correctly.

I've visited a number of SCs across North America and I would say the Downer is the worst of the bunch in terms of how frequently their dancers try to overcount and how the overcounting/ripoff culture is tolerated/tacitly encouraged by management. The arguments here are the worst because the girl will not back off like she will at other places (knowing mgmt. will have her back if you approach them unlike some other places).

I think this is one of the more accurate reviews of what the Downer is actually like.

Very good to know how Tootsie's is trending these days. Haven't been since a summer trip to Miami about four years ago but always consider going back one of these years.

Helpful as always to have your update on the current scene at IR. I have resisted going back b/c it truly seems dancer quality was down and shows little signs of picking up (at least at present).

Security isn't going to kick your ass in the parking lot simply b/c you question getting ripped off. Don't cave that easily.

The pasties and sting-like atmosphere are unfortunate. Though there seem to be reports of high mileage still. Not sure what to make of all this. Interested to understand more. Will post review if visiting soon.

The hustle and disregard for patrons here needs to be voiced more often. They only care about conventioneers with expense accts. Others should stay away.

This is about an accurate a review as could be given of what SR Vegas has become in the last few years.

@Dougster, The article was not intended as an exploration of ways to protect dancers' feelings. It was meant for locals and regular visitors who go to the Vegas clubs and want to minimize their exposure to the insane levels of hustling that go on there. I've found some of the techniques mentioned in both the articles and comments to be of great help towards this. @grobert, Really good information to know. You're right about Rhino. It is the epitome of an overrated club. It's so bad now compared to a few years ago that I'd love to see it relegated to 3rd class status someday. Will have to check out Little Darlings next time I'm in town (just got back but got cleaned out pretty badly at the sportsbook this trip).

I've had many, many great nights in Vegas strip clubs throughout the 2000's and did my best to stay within allotted budgets (not always successful!) The quality of the dancers in LV has trumped the strip clubs of any other city I've ever visited. However, I feel a bit of a decline (or maybe at least temporary downturn) is taking place in Sin City recently. The Rhino's level of contact for dances is down and the hustle factor is pretty nasty right now. Hustle in Vegas is unavoidable - always has been - but it seems to be worse right now with more aggressive dancers (often not the best-looking ones) literally pushing you into the VIP and getting mouthy if you're not interested in them. The lower contact dances (both on the floor and in the VIP) make the hustle just more trouble than it's worth. As a decade-long fan of Vegas SC's, I hope the situation soon improves but my November 2010 visit was the tamest I'd seen it there.

What about the lapdance quality specifically at the Rhino and Sapphire's right now? A few reviews suggested that the Rhino in particular had become a more "hands-off" or "air dance" environment, apparently because of a recent raid......
