Hitchhiking - how far have you gone?^
That could be. They always seemed to have a car since the late 50’s but during WW2 I could see not having a car.

Hitchhiking - how far have you gone?It still get amazed how much times have changed. My dad enlisted in the Navy during WW II while he was still 17. He turned 18 and graduated from high school a month later. Graduation was on a Friday night and Sunday he was off to basic training.
He had to hitchhike a ride to the nearest city about an hour away. He spent the night at the YMCA and was bussed to basic the next morning.
It still shocks me grandparents didn’t drive him.

Hitchhiking - how far have you gone?My uncle used to hitchhike all the time when he was in the Marines in the 50’s. He always appreciated the many rides he got and as he got older he palways reciprocated the deed. Would always pick up people along the road - until he got beaten up and robbed. I think you’d be crazy to do it today

RIP John MaddenWhen I was a kid, I was an old NFL guy. (As opposed to AFL). TV has changed. Now they put the big match up’s on at the 4 pm late game. But back in the day you usually just got a west coast game. The Raiders were good so it seems like they were always on. That’s the time I fell in love with them as my second favorite team.
I loved him first as a coach then as a great TV guy. He made football fun

Philly 2AMer. 2 Dead.Kim Foxx has dropped the charges on nearly 30 percent of the Cook County felony cases. That’s a 35% increase over her predecessor.
That’s well over 25,000 felony cases she declined to prosecute

Why are murder rates up so much in 2021
Chicago had over 1000 in early December. Most in 30 years
St Louis may be almost 3 times higher than 2000 by the end of the year
Spiking in LA in too

Something for Motorhead: BOURBONThat’s pretty cool
I’m not a big fan of the taste of bourbon though. Found it off that it’s made in North Dakota - not Kentucky

OT: Creative ways of using leftover Christmas hamMy mom used to grind up the leftover ham and make ham salad. It was awful. I don’t recommend it. A waste of good leftovers. This is kind of a midwestern thing, I think

Vehicles - What Could You See Yourself Buying? This discussion is beginning to remind me of an episode of “Mad Men”.
“The Chrysanthemum and the Sword”
Mad Men is a great show BTW if you haven’t seen it. Perhaps you have to be older to appreciate it. Ex Naval Officer Roger Sterling refuses to do business with Honda when they came to the US looking for an ad agency for motorcycles and to introduce their future automobile line.
Reddit reviewers call Sterling racist but forget this episode took place only 16 or 17 years after the end of WW ii and don’t realize why a Navy man who served in the Pacific and saw many, many friends die would still hate the Japanese

OT: Kim Potter found guiltyBut not complying exponentially increases your chances of a bad outcome.
I could have argued with the cop. What good with that have done? I remained calm and it was 30 minutes out of my night. And we both went home alive

OT: Kim Potter found guiltyNina, the AA community needs stop blaming everything on systematic racism and take some ownership in raising kids to be responsible for their actions
I was stopped at 4am after leaving a club. I hadn’t been drinking. The cop was an absolute asshole. I asked why he pulled me over and he refused. I could have acted the way these guys who get killed do, but instead I complied. And I didn’t get shot. And I’m still alive to post on TUSCL.
It ain’t that hard. Play along and do what the cop says and comply.

OT: Kim Potter found guilty“It wouldn't have happened to me”
I guess you can spin that both ways. Putting myself in Duante Wright’s shoes, it wouldn’t have happened to me either, because…,
I wouldn’t have had expired tags
I wouldn’t have made an illegal turn
I wouldn’t have had an open warrant
I wouldn’t have resisted
I know little kids that can obey the rules better than this dude
