Thanks for the review. I'm still a ways from traveling back to TJ, but you answered one of my burning questions (is it lively during the week again). Still wondering what's happened/happening in the smaller clubs around the block (hint, hint, tahoecruz :-)).

You can use either currency but they will almost always quote a price to you in USD. I prefer dollars myself because it means having a smaller number of bills in my pocket/wallet.

Great review as always. I'm surprised that the speakeasy is on the 10th floor... I thought that was where the most expensive rooms are. Fri/Sat late nights are a challenge in HK because of the crowding, so maybe that's an option if you're claustrophobic. My personal favorites are the master rooms with an outside window on the 8th floor.

1. No. 2. They don't care if you lave before check out time. If you don't fuck up the room or drink stuff in the minibar fridge, you'll get your deposit back.

It comes down to this: If you're a citizen they ultimately have to let you in. A driver's license isn't proof of that, because there are lots of ways that people who aren't citizens can get one. So, if that's all you have with you, they have to go through a separate process to try and verify your citizenship. this can take a lot of time, and if the CPB officer is in a bad mood or or you get up their nose or he/she just plain feels like it, it can take a whole lot of time. All those rights mentioned in the Constitution do not apply to you until you get past that officer.

@tahoecruz: If Jalos hasn't been updated, let me save you the wasted night by saying don't bother. The single rooms are worse than the old (two renovations ago) rooms at Cascadas, and the "deluxe" jacuzzi rooms are on a par with the Cascadas single rooms one reno ago. I grabbed a single room there a couple of years ago, got charged $10 more than the online price (they claimed they lost my reservation), and it was worse than using the lap dance booths in CC. :-)

Excellent and informative as always. I find San Diego infinitely more annoying than LA to drive through. The International lot by PedWest is worth the extra money to me because of the traffic, and many CBP employees park there so it's safe. You used to be able to get in by giving a phone number instead of a card if you want to pay cash... did they stop that? If the Amtrak station in LA ever becomes convenient to get to I would consider bypassing SD entirely, myself. Santa Fe station is across the street from the trolley. Quick note about the camera: it is in fact a camera, and its primary purpose is to check against the pic you provide when you apply for your passport/card. Not a big deal unless your ID is fake. :-) A few specific questions (not necessarily for you): Any intel on price changes? Is $100 truly the new normal? Has Hotel Jalos (the one above CC) been spruced up at all, or is it still nasty? Did any of the smaller clubs close over lack of business, or are they all still there?

@Kudabra: 623 is spot on. Beer plus tip is 100, a tip to a BG is 20, etc. The daily exchange rate at the club is posted on signs all over the place. It used to be the case that you could end up paying a bit less overall if you stuck to pesos, but every BG these days has a cellphone with a calculator and they can do the math. I don't think it's worth the effort 'cause you're (maybe) going to save enough to get an extra lap dance or two. You can get a free currency converter app to help if you want to try it. The biggest issue for me is that the largest denomination bill is 500 pesos ($25) and you'll get mostly 200 peso bills and smaller out of an ATM, so you're guaranteed to have to deal with a pile of bills in your pocket or wherever you stash it. @desertscrub: Um... none of the info being shared here so far is secret or illegal, and TJ is in a country that is not called the US. What, exactly, would he bust us for? Dirty thoughts? :-)

I'm hoping that you'll update us on any price changes... this time last year, this was the price list: Arriba (30 min): $60-100 Beer or bottled water in the club: $4 Drink for the lady (a.k.a. ficha): $9 Decent breakfast: %5-10 Lunch: $10-15 Dinner: $15-20 I just lump it all together and bring about $150-200 per trip upstairs that I expect to make, plus a bit extra for incidentals. This doesn't include your room, room deposit or VIP card. If you run out or get low, DO NOT use any ATMs on the street. There is one at the back entrance of HK and one more in the main lobby of Cascadas, and both will give you pesos with a 3000 or 4000 peso limit (about $150-200) with a hefty service charge. There is another at the entrance to Chicago Club that will give you USD, again with a hefty service charge. I have used all three without any issues. If you're comfortable enough to wander to the main tourist drag (Av Revolucion), you will find regular banks with ATMs and regular service fees (but pesos again, not dollars, and the withdrawal limit will be 6000). All of them will have an additional fee for USD-MXN conversion.

You can totally take them up to your room. The way it works is that if you don't have a room of your own, you can "rent" one for a half hour for about $20. You'll only be able to take HK girls up to Cascadas... if for example you go to Adelita's or Chicago Club (and you should give them a visit, they're literally a minute walk down the street) and find a girl, you can only use their hotel (which means paying $20 for one of their rooms in their hotel).

A few notes: These are brothels, and prostitution is legal in Mexico. No idea where desertscrub is coming from on this, unless he's really bored and just wants to troll. Remember to get your VIP card before you check in. They won't give you the room discount after the fact. Check-in at Cascadas is 3pm, but if you're there earlier you can leave your bag at the desk at the front door of the club where you get your VIP card for a couple of bucks. Take a backpack or a duffel because you will have a long flight of stairs to climb to the front desk at the hotel. Tipping the girls for a quick feel is a must. Tipping the mesero for drinks is a must. In both cases, a buck is standard. Any other requests for tips is discretionary. There's no point in carrying a wad of dollar bills from stateside with you -- you can easily get change at any of the bars inside. Ask a few BGs at random what their price is before you commit to going upstairs so you know what to expect. Last year the going rate was $80 for 30 min from most, but I hear that's gone up to $100. This is for a 6-8; a 9 or 10 will likely ask for more. If your Spanish isn't great, use Google Translate or one of the other apps on your phone. Most girls know how to use it. Negotiate what you're getting clearly before going upstairs if you want more than basic sex. Be friendly and courteous and you'll get the same treatment back. Check out the bouncers (and how many there are) and ask yourself what they'd be like in a scuffle before being an asshole in any way. :-)

Slightly OT, but I think the TJ Mongers forum should be limited to verified members... it's pointless to check for info there or participate if it gets filled up with spam and high schoolers just like the "front room" forum.

If you go back quite a while, about eight years ago I think, there are some couples' reviews. I've seen plenty of women in HK, especially on the weekends. They will give you a bright wristband at the door to mark you as a customer (more for your own protection, I imagine). You might find that some girls will not want to go upstairs with the two of you, but many will. I say go for it, with the proviso that Baja California is still at orange w.r.t. Covid and the border is restricted. I don't know if your flight plans are fixed, but one way around the latter is to fly directly in to TIJ.

@Papi: I have yet to encounter a true ROB in my trips down there. Closest has been a few who did the minimum to finish me off, but that's my bad for not negotiating clearly before going up to the room. IMO the girls have a lot more to worry about than you because if they generate enough complaints from the PLs then they risk getting turfed from what is (to them) the most lucrative job that they will ever hold. I have seen a deer-in-the-headlights look from time to time if I get up from a table before the girl has finished her ficha.

In a brothel? They log who you're going upstairs with, what time you go up, and how long you're going up for... I'm guessing that what "generally" happens is that you get first hand experience on what the local ER is like from a patient's perspective. I have no doubt that some gringos have tried it, but it would take a special kind of stupid to do so unless you're rich or connected enough to buy your way out of the mess that'll probably rain down. These places are not run and staffed by kindly old abuelas.

The HK cousin bars are all listed on the HK website and this one isn't there. Nothing from a Google search either, so it may be something in the works as opposed to an open bar...

So, with the expansion, how crowded is it at peak times now? Do they have more girls on the floor to fill up the available space or is it easier to find a quiet spot while in the bar? Also curious about whether the other clubs have done renovations.

Vapes are best for that... no smell, quick high, and it doesn't last as long so it's easier to pick a plateau and stick to it...
